Out of the Fog
Ministry Update
This last year was like being in the middle of a fog storm. When I fly fish on the Upper Delaware River, the water is so cold; you can be in the middle of summer on a 90-degree day but you are standing in water that’s 45 degrees. This huge temperature variation creates a fog across the water where you can’t see a foot in front of you. This is how this last year has been for many of us. We know this does not quite feel like it should. You never quite knew what was going to appear as you began to see past the fog. I was only able to see a small part of the whole.
As things begin to reopen, we all begin to see what the new normal will be. I am feeling like it is time to stop and take a deep breath. As I slow down, I am developing a plan for the future. There is a lot to do and also a lot to reflect on.
I launched a full-fledged non-profit this past year called Small Things. It has grown more than I could have imagined. We currently are distributing about 160,000 pounds of food a week - we are on pace to do about 8 million pounds of food this year! I have a lot of reflecting, thinking, and planning to do. I am positioned very uniquely to combat food insecurity across the Philadelphia region in a big way.
Personal Note
Amrah, Abrielle, Seraphina, and I are all doing well. We are excited to have Amrah’s parents come and stay with us during the month of June. It will be good to spend some time with them. The girls can’t wait to see them either. It feels good to begin to spend some time with people again.
I am in the process of looking for more monthly supporters for the work I am doing. Those who support me give in one of two ways – directly to the Liberti Network, which pays me to serve as a missionary in the City of Philadelphia, or to Small Things Inc., which funds the warehouse and food distribution operation. I need both types of support, but especially those who regularly support me with their recurring gifts through the Liberti Network.
As an ordained minister, I want to keep my connection to the local Church and continue to serve the Liberti Network. My desire is to see the church mobilized for the good of the region and both of my roles allow me to do this. I wanted to give all of you this update and also thank you for your continued support.
